Are you a NSW councillor? Register your interest in and support for cat containment policies!
Add your name to our list of NSW councillors that are calling for changes to NSW law to allow cat containment.
NSW and Western Australia are the only Australian states or territories where councils are prohibited by law from implementing cat containment policies to protect wildlife and keep cats safe.
In NSW, simple amendments to the Companion Animals Act 1998 would empower local governments – as occurs in other states. In Victoria for example, at least 38 local government areas have cat containment policies in place.
We are building a list of NSW councillors to demonstrate to the NSW Government that local decision makers want the power to create a cat curfew.
Add your name to this list to ask the NSW Government to:
- Amend the Companion Animals Act 1998 to allow local governments to introduce containment laws that protect wildlife, keeps cats safe and meet the needs of their community.
- Establish a state-wide grant program to support local governments to implement cat containment policies and programs that encourage responsible pet ownership, including: desexing, identification and registration.
Your name will be published in a list that will be used to advocate to the NSW Government.
